Bespoke vs Licensed Solution
A bespoke solution is one where all the programs are created for your particular requirements and on completion are owned by you. The advantage of a bespoke solution is that you attain exactly what you require and own the software code. The disadvantages are cost and typically long lead times.
A licensed solution involves the use or adaptation of an existing software solution that may provide the same functionality as a bespoke solution. The advantages are lower costs and quicker lead times.
Not every business requirement has an available 'ready fit' solution, but most business needs can be managed by adapting existing systems. In fact, even most bespoke developments will have involve the use or licensed 3rd party products (such as databases and operating systems).
